The other day was my mother's birthday.  I didn't give her any presents at all.  I hadn't had time so I told her that we would buy her whatever she wanted.

On Friday afternoon I hadn't plann anything and I had had a horrible day at work, and just by chance I bought handles for a bag.  When I got home I took the fabrics that I had cut on Monday afternoon and began with the bag.

For quite sometime I wanted to try and make a bag like the one in Tilda's book.  I looked at the pictures and I got the idea of how to make the pattern but I didn't follow the instructions in the book because I couldn't understand them (and it is not because they are in English).

This is the second time I use the sewing machine and as I had said before I don't sew very well.  But I started and did it as I could and here is the result.  I am really happy with it.  In the end it came out much better than I had expected.   My mother liked it as well and she did expect something after talking with me on the phone on Friday evening, but nothing like this.

I crocheted the flower following Lucy's (from Attic24) tutorial.  She explained it so good that this is the first time I crochetet a flower and I didn't have any trouble at all.  So from this blog, thanks Lucy for your tutorials I am learning a lot from them.

This is the bread I baked on Friday evening.  It was my bread for the weekend.  I had a bit of a problem but in the end the bread came out pretty good.  For me it is the perfect bread to eat with olive oil as breakfast.

This is one of the breads for this weekend.  This is for my family, half will be for my parents and sister and half for my brother and his family.  Mine is now in the fridge and I will bake it tomorrow evening.

The ingredients are:  300 gr leaven or sourdough (I never know the exact term), 490 gr water, 15 gr salt and 700 flour (there is some rye and some white flour, both organic).

Yesterday evening I put in a bowl 100 gr. of leaven and 100 gr of brown rye and 100 gr of water.  I mixed everything and let the bowl covered on the counter in the kitchen.  This morning at around 6:30 am, after taking the batch of yogurt out of the oven, I noticed the leaven was at it best.  So I mixed it with the rest of ingredients.  Goes without saying that I almost got late to work.  My only concern during the rest of the day was if I had put the dough in the fridge or if I had let it on the counter.  At the end, when I had arrived home this evening at 18:30 I was grateful to see that I had put it inside the fridge.

I took the dough out of the fridge and let it warm a bit before shaping the bread.  I've lost track of time the moment I phone one of my cousins.  I was talking to her until my phone didn't have more battery.  So I shaped when I thought it was Ok, let it rest for a bit and then put it inside the oven (after cutting it) when the oven was at 250º C.  I also put some ice on the bottom of the oven to create steam.  The bread was 30 minutes at 250º C, then 20 minutes at 220ºC and 10 minutes with the oven out.

Right now it is cooling on a wire rack.

As I write this post I have become aware that tomorrow I have to carry this bread to work (I have to go by bus because my sister has my car) and until 15:30 it won't reach it final destination. This bread weights about 1,3 kilo more or less.

I have on the table right beside me "The handmade loaf" by Dan Lepard which is helping me with some "bread vocabulary".

Today is my mother's birthday and apart from being healthy (most important!!) we are all here in Malaga, daughters, son, daughter in law and grandchildren.  It is also my godfather birthday.  Happy Birthday to both of them!!

 Ana.

One month with my blog. And I think it is going well.
I get worry that I won’t have anything to tell. Other times I have a lot to tell.  I know this is normal and I think I should have a notebook around to write ideas down.
Going around Málaga with my camera means that I am rediscovering my city and I do like very much what I am seeing through it.  This blog is like my photo album.  I also like this when I visit other blogs, you get to see a bit of the world without leaving your home and it is also very interesting to see it through other people’s eyes.
As you can see with my blog I am using it as my book recipe.  This is quite useful because sometimes you do a certain recipe a lot and then you stop.  And when you want to do it again you don’t remember how you did them or where you wrote them.
I know most people don’t care much about bread but for me it is important as I never make the same bread.  I need to know how a certain combination of flours works best, the amount of water I put and if I have to correct something the next time.  I have some easy bread recipes that work with yeast but I need time to make them and put them in the blog.
When I open my blog I was really worried about having enough time for it.  So far I think I’ve managed.  I am aware too that in the future I will do better and I will do worse. At least by now I have quite few entries and I am very happy with this.
Regarding my English, I have my days. I have days when I am really fluent and others when I am not.  Although I read a lot in English and I understand everything for the most part, it is quite different when you have to write it.   In general I do better when I write thinking in English than when I am trying to translate from what I wrote in Spanish. I know I have to correct some English entries because I have already seen some mistakes. I do hope to improve with time and practice.
Anyway, the most important thing about this blog is that I am enjoying it a lot.

Ana.

Crochet: manta a cuadros (continuación)

This is taking longer than I thought.  The main reasons are that I have more proyects apart from this one and this month I don't have as much time as I would like because of the family visiting us as well.  So it is going really slow.   Anyway I like to see all the squares forming a rainbow of colours.  The most difficult part for me is combining colours and after that combining squares for the blanket.

I have always liked this type of basket and on Saturday I finally bought this one.  As you can see in the picture I am using it to put all that red yarn I bought for a blanket that I have already started.
