Eligiendo Fotos

For quite sometime, I have had three frames without pictures hanging in my bedroom.  Finally I took the time to choose from my many photos and take them to the shop to have them in paper.  On Saturday morning I made a selection and put them inside the frames.  I'm still surprise to see the frames with the pictures inside.

Sevilla, New York, Paris, Venezia and Switzerland are in these photos.  The Switzerland ones, that look like they are in black and white, are my favorites.  They were taking in colour and that colour is the real thing.  We don't get to see this kind of view here in Malaga.

At the beginning of last week I ordered some things to Amazon.co.uk.  They arrived on Friday.  As you can see there are mostly books.  I saw them when I visited London but I didn't buy them there because I didn't have enough space inside my luggage and because usually in Amazon you can find them cheapper and I don't have to pay for delivery.

I haven't have enough time to see them properly.  I am very happy with Dan Lepard's baking book.  There are lots of recipes for baking both sweet and salty things.  I do like as well that I can find there some English recipes.

In tv in a channel called "Canal Cocina" (it is a cooking channel) I have been watching Donna Hay programm and I love it.  Specially the sweet things she cook.  This is the book with all recipes from that program.  I love the photos in her books.

I haven't seen Downton Abbey but my mother loves it.  I have seen the tv advertisement and I think it is my kind of tv series.  So when I saw in London this dvd with both seasons I took note and I ordered it.  In Spain you can only find season one and it costs the same as both seasons in Amazon.  The best part about watching a series on dvd is that you can watch them whenever you like.

Now what I need is time.

On Saturday morning I baked some muffins.  First ones are "Las magdalenas de Rita" and you can find the recipe here in my blog http://lastardesdeana.blogspot.com/2011/09/magdalenas-de-rita.html.  They are really easy to make.  You can recognize them because they have some sugar on top.  Second ones are carrot muffin.  I more or less followed Rita's recipe and the things I changed were the flour, I used spelt flour for the carrot ones, brown sugar and less sugar, and some fermented milk (because here it is quite difficult to find buttermilk).

Both of them are very soft and very good.  I haven't decided which one I like the most.

I gave some to my cousin Nuria.  I went to visit her and her daughter Ana.  They both have beautiful blogs.  And this morning I gave the rest to my father who came to take them.

Me gusta mucho.

This is what I have eaten this weekend.  Fist of all is a brocoli soup.  It was delicious, it has also onion, carrot, leek, celery, fresh ginger and I have used garan masala I bought a while ago in an Iceland in Marbella.  I put curmin, a bit of chilli and some black pepper as well.

After the soup I have had some green salad with chicken breast.  I made the chicken breast following a Jamie Oliver's recipe that mixes it with dry english mustard and olive oil.  I was surprise because english mustard is quite spicy and this way it is not spicy at all.

Salad fruit is what I've been having for dessert.  That and some muffins I baked on Saturday morning.

Alguna que otra sorpresa me he llevado y no siempre buenas.

Two breads for the weekend.  First one is for my parents.  Half loaf of second bread is for me, the other half is for my sister.

First loaf ingredients are:  350 gr. strong flour, 50 gr. wholemeal flour, 100 gr. spelt flour, 10 gr. yeast (fresh), 340 gr of water and 10 gr. salt.  This loaf was kneaded and then spent around 24 hours inside the fridge.

Second loaf ingredients are:  200 gr. leaven (brown rye), 300 gr. strong Allison flour, 200 gr Granary Hovis flour, 10 gr. salt, some seeds and 350 gr. water.  I didn't knead it, only mixed.  It also went to the fridge and stayed there until this afternoon.

Both were backed this afternoon and evening.  In fact, the last loaf is still warm from the oven.

Tomorrow I'll see how they are inside.  I was thinking that last year I couldn't wait to cut them in half and see if they were well done.  I had quite a few surprise and some were not good.

Cuando he llegado a mi casa, me he cambidado deprisa y me he ido a dar un paseo y a hacer algo de ejercicio.

This is from this afternoon or evening (around half past five).  Today it is cold here in Málaga.  This morning it was raining but this afternoon it was fine so I decided to go for a walk and do a bit of exercise.  This year we've been very lucky with the weather and in general it is not so cold or rainy like other winters.  But today for us is cold.  Anyway, it was really worth walking by the sea at this time of the day.

This is tunafish in "escabeche".

First of all, I put some onion and garlic in olive oil until the onion was done.  Then I added some tumeric, black pepper, cumin, a bit of chilli and oregano.  This can change depending on what I have at home.  Sometimes I only put oregano and some black pepper.  As I say it depends on what I have at that moment or what I remember to add. So you can put whatever you like.

When I cook turkey in "escabeche" if I put a glass of olive oil I put half a glass of vinegar, but here as you can see I put enough of olive oil to cook the onion and garlic and this glass of vinegar.  I use apple vinegar because I like that it is not so strong.  You can put any other vinegar you like.

Then I add the tunafish and let it cook few minutes, like five at most, because tunafish doesn't need too much time to cook and with the heat there's already inside the pot, if you covered it, the tunafish will finish cooking itself, even if you turn off the stove.

When it is cool I put it inside the fridge until I need it.  Now in winter I take it out from the fridge five minutes before so it is not so cold.

This weekend I had ajoblanco for starter, then a green salad with tunafish and some chips, and kiwi for desert. At some point I stopped being so healthy and had a very big popcorn bowl to see some movies.
