El tercer día, un martes, fuimos a The Cloisters. The Cloisters es lo que veis en la primera foto. Forma parte del Museo Metropolitano de Nueva York. Está en las afueras y a pesar de que hemos estado en Nueva York unas pocas veces no lo conocíamos. Es un poco rollo llegar hasta állí porque está a las afueras (o lo que parece las afueras) y se tarda mucho, muchísimo si vais en autobus. Nosotras fuimos en autobus pero recomiendo a todo el mundo que coja el metro y luego el último tramo lo haga en autobus.
El sitio es muy bonito e interesante pero todo lo que hay es de Europa: Francia, España e Italia. Por tanto aunque nos gustó creo que a nosotras no nos llama tanto la atención como a lo mejor a un americano que no haya visitado Europa. Con todo no quiero de decir que no merezca la pena. Como digo es muy bonito y está muy bien puesto.
The Cloisters está en mitad de un parque y las vistas desde una de las terrazas al río son muy bonitas. Es verdad que parece que está uno en otro sitio y no en Manhattan.
Hay un jardín medieval. Es lo que me pareció más interesante.
Pocas veces se ven carteles que inviten a tocar como el cartel de abajo que pone: Plants to Touch. Son plantas de hierbas aromáticas.
El mismo martes por la tarde había un festival en la 5ª Avenida en la milla de los museos. La historia es que desde las 6 de la tarde hasta las 8 o las 9 todos los museos en esa milla se podían visitar gratuitamente. Después de The Cloisters fuimos al Museo Metropolitano ya que la entrada sirve para visitar los dos, y cuando cerraron el museo a las 5 de la tarde nos quedamos por la zona para esperar a que empezar el festival.
Nunca habíamos llegado hasta el Museo Guggenheim que es el que aparece en la foto de abajo.
Mientras hacíamos tiempo hasta las 6 de la tarde entramos a dar un paseo a Central Park porque al igual que con el Museo Guggenheim nunca habíamos llegado a esta zona donde está este lago tan grande.
Es espectacular la vista desde el lago. Hay mucha gente corriendo en el paseo que hay alrededor del lago.
Y por fin llegaron las 6 de la tarde y comenzó el festival. En la 5ª Avenida repartieron tizas para que la gente pintara en la calzada. Estuvo muy bien el festival. Mucha música por todos lados y mucho ambiente. Al final en el Guggenheim no pudimos entrar porque nos encontramos una cola tremenda. Nos gustó mucho una iglesia que hay al lado del Guggenheim. Sé que la iglesia no es católica pero no recuerdo de que tipo es, lo que si sé es que es preciosa. Hicieron un pequeño concierto con campanitas en la entrada y luego un paseo con guía en la iglesia. Muy interesante.
Y ya de vuelta y anocheciendo saqué esta foto de abajo de los edificios de la 5ª Avenida a la altura del Plaza.
In our third day in New York we visited The Cloisters. It is part of the Metropolitan Museum. It is very beautiful but coming from Europe is not as unique to see this things as for maybe an American. We've seen churches and cloisters like this in France, Italy and of course in Spain. Anyway I am not saying it isn't worth visiting, it is very interesting and nice but the problem is getting there because it takes quite a while to get to The Cloisters. We took the bus from the 42 Street and it took us like an hour and half to get there. I suggest taking the underground and then the bus. But anyway as I was saying is very nice and interesting and is in the middle of a park. The views from there to the river are nice too and one cannot believe one is still in Manhattan. The best part for me was the medieval herb garden.
After The Cloisters we went to the Metropolitan Museum because you use the same ticket for both of them (you buy it in the Metropolitan and can visit both the Metropolitan and The Cloisters). We have already visited a few times the Metropolitan Museum, is impresive. When they closed at 5 p.m we decided to go walking to were the Guggenheim Museum. That Tuesday it was the Mile Museum Festival or something like that. The thing is that from 6 pm to 8 or 9 pm all Museum in 5th Ave mile were free to visit. But while we waited for 6 p.m we went to Central Park. We had never been to that part of the park. We loved it there and the views from the lake are something. When the time for the Festival arrived we couldn't visit the Guggenheim because there was a really long queue. Instead we walked around because it was fun as there was a lot going on in the street. We liked a lot a church that is very near the Guggenheim. It is a very beautiful church. There was a guide visit of the church, very interesting and a concert with bells in the entrance.
