  • The Accidental Vampire de Lynsay Sands

The books I have read this last month were:

  • "The Accidental Vampire" by Lynsay Sands
  • "La Conjura de Cortés" By Matilde Asensi
  • "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher

"The Accidental Vampire" by Lynsay Sands is the 7th book in her "Argeneau" Series and as always it is a lot of fun to read.  I like these books because they are light and nice reads and usually very funny.

Matilde Asensi is a Spanish author.  "La Conjura de Cortés" is the third book in her triology "Martin Ojo de Plata".  I don't know if this triology has been translated into English.  I like it a lot.  Lots of adventures and a bit of history in it.  I read the first two books a few years ago and I was really looking forward to reading this last book.

Before Summer I tried reading Jim Butcher Dresden Files "Storm Front" a few times but couldn't pass through the first pages.  A few weeks back I read in Charlaine Harris' website someone saying it was worth to give a it a try.  And I tried again and I really like it this time.  As soon as I can I am going to read second book of the Dresden Files.

I have a lot going on in my life at the moment so another week went by and I haven't posted anything.  Anyway I have to say that eventhough I haven't posted anything I have been doing quite a few things.  These photos you have seen are from this last weekend.  I have baked bread loaves, rolls and sweet things such as brownies, muffins or magdalenas as we called them here and cooked some chilli and a zucchini and onion pie or "quiche".

The black or brown "magdalenas" you can see in the pictures are not chocolate or cacao, I have used some carob flour (I have to look "algarroba" in a dictionary and it says its carob in English).   I followed the same recipe I always used but I added two tablespoon of this type of flour and a bit of buttermilk so the dough weren't too thick.  They tasted really good and they are  healthier than with cacao.

I don't bake brownies as much as I like because they have a lot of sugar but well once in a while why not.  I have to look if I have already posted the recipe or not.  It is really easy.  I must say they taste next day even better.

The loaves are, as always, made with sourdough and they are the same as last week.  For the rolls I used the bread-machine.  After that I only had to shape the rolls and let them for an hour before baking them.  The ingredients were:  150 gr. water, 150 gr. milk, a teaspoon of dried yeast, a bit of butter, 500 gr . strong flour, 10 gr salt and 5 gr sugar.

I have been also doing some crochet and some cross-point.  I am not showing them to you because I still don't have much of the cross-point done and the crochet is the same shawl you saw a couple of post back.

Here you have the loaf for this weekend.  Just as always, sourdough, 250 flour and 250 rye flour, mixed seeds, 10 gr salt and 325 gr (or even a bit more) water.  This time I baked the two loaves in a tin.  The one in the picture is mine, the other loaf was for my sister.

Ya me he apuntado.

Yesterday I finished the cross-stitch Tralalá from "Bordando Juntos" forum I showed you this week.  Isn't it beautiful?

I thought I was going to have time to do other things now that I had finished this project and next one, that is October Tralalá does not start until October but today I saw November and December Tralalá and they are very nice too and I would like to do them.  The thing is that I cannot start for example November until I hadn't finished October so I need to make sure I finished October on time.  This afternoon I have already bought the threads and fabric I need for October cross-stitch and I have started both borders (there are two squares).

I have also fallen in love with another cross-stitch common project that I have seen in "Mil Puntadas" forum.  It is a halloween cross-stitch and I think it can be fun.

Well we'll see if I am able to do all cross-stitch projets I want to do.  I'll keep you informed.

This is the sourdough bread for this weekend.  I baked it yesterday evening.

No yeast just sourdough, two tablespoon of sourdough.  It has also 500 gr flour (strong and rye), seeds, oatmeal, 10 gr. salt and (more or less) 325 gr. of water.  I started with 300 gr of water but I saw the flour needed more so I added extra.  I mixed all ingredients well, covered the bowl with a plastic shower cap and let the bowl in the kitchen the whole night.

Yesterday morning, around 6:15 a.m, and before going to work, I shaped the loaf and let it in a "banneton" (sorry I don't know how it is called in English), covered it again with the shower cap and let in the fridge.

My mother was at 13:30 in my house and I called her and asked her to take the banneton out of the fridge so I could bake the loaf around 16:30.  Problem was that I arrived at home around 18:00 so the dough was over fermented (again I don't know if this is said this way).

Anyway I baked as always.  The loaf didn't rise as much as it should have but today we have tried the bread and it tasted really well.  It has a lot of flavour.

And now I have bread for the weekend. : )

These are the projects I am working on right now.

A cross-stitch from "Bordando Juntos" forum, that I should have finished last month.  I hope I can finish it this week or at least before October.

The crochet projetc is a shawl for me for Autumn.  I am using a cotton yarn from Katia, Katia Candy.  I am enjoying working with this yarn a lot.  It is really soft and very easy to crochet with.  I still have to crochet quite a bit to finish it but as it is not a very difficult pattern and I don't have to change colours it is quite nice to work with it.

A while back I bought green soybeans because I thought they were the ones to make soy milk.  In "El Foro del Pan" they told me the ones for soy milk are the white beans.  So, I didn't know what to do with the green beans.  But someone from the same forum suggested I made soy sprouts.

After looking in internet how to cultivate soy sprouts last week I decided to give it a try.  Well I think I should have harvested them when I took the first picture but I thought they should stay one more day.  Yesterday I found them too grown so I put them in this small tray, with a bit of water and today I found them like the last picture.  I think they look really beautiful.

I will experiment again as I still have lots of soybeans left.
